Survey: Should we determine the importance of an animal based on their intelligence?

For instance, think about the intelligence we perceive in animals. Apparently, monkeys and dolphins demonstrate to have a very sophisticated capacity of memory and intelligence in experiments. We show much more consideration for an animal such as a monkey, than to animals we eat such as chickens. Do you think we should value an animal who shows greater intelligence as more important than to an animal who doesn't?

Survey: Should we determine the importance of an animal based on their intelligence?
No, all animals are living beings and deserve the same regard, protection, etc...... Intelligence in animals, just like in humans, is just one variable. We live in a society that attempt to give the same rights and consideration to all people, regardless of other variables. Animals also should also be given equal consideration to one another.
Reply:Firstly an attempt to judge some one on anything thing that we haven't comprehended fully - Intelligence, is futile. All theories hold good till the time they are proven wrong. So they cannot help you make realistic judgments. We human beings know very little and are very much less capable than other animals in many matters.

If you are a parent and have 2 kids consider one of them to be very intelligent and the other an average one..... Would you treat them differently ? If you do so you have think about how intelligent you are....

If you have greater consideration for a monkey that is not universal behavior....its individual preference. Some have chicken for pets and some chicken are really intelligent when grown in a natural setting.

Intelligence is not always some thing that you are born with. A man can acquire intelligence with deligent learning. And that learning is not always through books.....experience and meditations do help.

Respect for nature - mother earth and its inhabitants will diminish when we start respecting animals and humans on how intelligent or how useful they are to us.....

We will pollute this earth and kill those animals if they are not at all important to us.
Reply:That's what we do for humans don't we?

The dumb animals will be pampered like Paris And Britany
Reply:no, that is silly

Reply:Generally we regard the importance of an animal based on its utility to us. Cattle and chickens are important as a source of food. All wild animals play a role in their respective ecosystems, intelligence notwithstanding, hence are important. If we are to value things based on intellect alone, then every mentally challenged person will be assigned very little value. If that were the case, who would be left for fundies to proselytize?
Reply:No... We have not the place to determine the importance of any living being.

If, however, it were intelligence that we used to measure importance, the Man himself would have to determine himself in the last echelon.
